Quick answer
To craft Bronze Detail, you need three things at the same time: the Bronze Craft technology, Smithing Mastery 2, and a Hardening Bucket physically attached to the Anvil as its extension. Once those requirements are met, a Wooden Anvil can turn 1 Bronze Ingot into 6 Bronze Details.
If the recipe is visible but greyed out, check the Hardening Bucket first. The most common mistake is placing it nearby without actually attaching it to the Anvil.
Bronze Detail shows up early and immediately starts appearing in a lot of useful recipes: tools, blockages, workstations, church upgrades, and later production chains. That is why the problem feels so abrupt. You may already have Bronze Ingots, an Anvil, and what looks like the correct technology, yet the game still refuses to start the craft.
The confusing part is Graveyard Keeper 2's workstation-extension system. Some recipes belong not to a workstation alone, but to a workstation plus a specific extension. The requirement is visible in the interface, but it is easy to miss that the extension must be physically connected to the workstation.

The required technology is Bronze Craft, in the metallurgy branch after Bronze Melting.
Do not confuse it with the earlier technology that gives you the Anvil itself:
So having a Wooden Anvil does not automatically mean you have unlocked Bronze Detail.
If Bronze Craft is still locked in the technology tree, fix that first. Moving buildings around will not help until the recipe itself is unlocked.
This is the big one.
The Hardening Bucket is an Anvil extension, not a standalone workstation. It has to be built so the game considers it attached to that Anvil. Merely putting it somewhere in the same yard is not enough.
If Bronze Detail is listed but will not start:
enter building mode;
find the Hardening Bucket;
move it directly against the Wooden Anvil;
close and reopen the Anvil interface;
check Bronze Detail again.
This is why so many players assume the recipe is bugged. The Bucket may look close enough visually, while the game does not treat it as connected.
The same extension logic matters later too. Higher-tier Anvils also use the Hardening Bucket for several related recipes.
Even with the technology and extension in place, Bronze Detail requires Smithing Mastery 2.
Early on, that is normally easy to reach. Your Rusty Hammer already contributes Smithing Mastery, and the first Smithing talent node can supply the rest.
The important lesson is broader than this one recipe: Mastery in GK2 does not come only from Inspirations. Equipped tools and other bonuses also count.

The base craft is available on the Wooden Anvil and remains available on later Anvil tiers.
Because one Ingot produces six Details, you usually do not need to smelt a huge stock specifically for each construction project. One batch goes a long way early on.

Do not start by reinstalling or restarting the game. Most Bronze Detail issues are one of these requirements.
Because extension placement matters.
A Hardening Bucket does not globally unlock recipes for every Anvil in the area. It services the specific Anvil it is attached to.
If you moved the Anvil after building the Bucket, check the connection again.
If the recipe is completely missing rather than greyed out, the most likely cause is that Bronze Craft has not been unlocked.
Check the technology tree instead of assuming the Ingot unlocks the next processing step. Ore, smelting, and metalworking are separate progression layers.
Later, yes. Once the Town is developed, Bronze Detail can appear at shops such as the Furniture Maker and Smithy.
That is not a great solution to the early progression wall, though. By the time those stores are convenient, you still need a working smithing chain for tools and higher-tier materials.
It is better to fix the Anvil setup once and craft the parts yourself.
Bronze Detail feeds a large number of early and mid-game recipes.
A very common next blocker is Polished Bronze. There is another unintuitive twist there: despite being a metal material, Polished Bronze is crafted at a Woodworking Workbench with a Tool Rack, not at the Anvil.

The core Bronze Detail requirements, however, are the same in the release build: Bronze Craft, Hardening Bucket, Smithing Mastery, and Bronze Ingot.
Patch 1.005 also rebalanced Furnace and Kiln craft/fuel costs. That does not change the Bronze Detail recipe itself, but exact fuel numbers from older videos may already be outdated.

Yes. It must count as an extension of that specific Anvil. Placing it somewhere nearby may not work.
Usually either your Smithing Mastery is too low or the Hardening Bucket is not properly connected.
Possibly, but verify every requirement first. If Bronze Craft is unlocked, Mastery 2 is met, the Ingot is available, and the Bucket is attached but crafting still fails, save, reload, and make sure your game is updated.
