Polished Bronze is crafted at Woodworking Workbench I or II, not at an Anvil. You need the Bronze Polishing technology, a connected Tool Rack, Building Mastery 5, and the following materials: 2 Bronze Details + 2 Sand + 1 Melted Fat → 2 Polished Bronze.
If the recipe is missing or locked, the usual causes are checking the wrong workstation, not connecting the Tool Rack, or not reaching the Distillation Cube yet — which is the early source of Melted Fat.
The name sounds like an obvious Smithing material, so the natural thing to do is open the Anvil and look beside Bronze Detail.
GK2 treats the polishing process as Building/woodworking production, though. The metal material is therefore made at a Woodworking Workbench.
This is one of those recipes where the game's branch logic matters more than the real-world logic of the item's name.

That unlocks the recipe itself, but the technology alone is not enough. The workstation still checks its extension and Mastery requirements.

That matters because Woodworking Workbench II itself uses Polished Bronze as a construction material. If the recipe required tier II, the progression would genuinely deadlock. It does not — use Workbench I.
Polished Bronze is one of the recipes that requires a workstation extension.
For the Woodworking Workbench, that extension is the Tool Rack.
Like the Hardening Bucket on an Anvil, the extension must actually belong to the workstation. Simply building one somewhere nearby may not satisfy the recipe.
If the technology is unlocked, your Mastery is high enough, and the materials are present but the recipe remains greyed out, reposition the Tool Rack directly against the Workbench and reopen the interface.

It is usually worth making several batches once the chain is operational because Polished Bronze quickly appears in important buildings and gear.
Bronze Detail is made at an Anvil from Bronze Ingot, but it requires:
One Bronze Ingot produces six Bronze Details, so once your Smithing setup works, this ingredient is not especially expensive.
If it is still locked, use Bronze Detail Not Crafting.
Sand appears in several early production chains and becomes a good automation target later.
For your first Polished Bronze, you do not need a special version of Sand — just normal Sand available to the Workbench.
Once zombie automation is online, maintaining a dedicated Sand supply is useful because it also feeds glass, stone, and alchemy-adjacent production.

Melted Fat is produced in the Distillation Cube. One basic distillation route processes Fat together with Clay Plates and Fuel and produces multiple Melted Fat.
The Distillation Cube belongs to alchemy progression, so Polished Bronze effectively connects metallurgy, woodworking, and alchemy.
If everything except Melted Fat is ready, do not search for another hidden Polished Bronze workstation. Advance the story/alchemy chain until Distillation is available.
