How to Resurrect a Zombie in Graveyard Keeper 2

How to unlock the Resurrection Lab, prepare a valid corpse, choose a Zombie Collar, use Reanimation Liquid, and raise multiple zombies on Envy day.

Updated · version 1.006

Quick answer

To raise your own zombie, you need a Resurrection Table I, a valid corpse with all six organs, a Zombie Collar in your backpack, and Reanimation Liquid in open storage in the same room. Put the body on the table, select the Collar, and press Prepare. Then, on Envy day, activate the central Resurrection device — it raises every prepared table at once.

If all requirements are met but the zombie still will not rise, update the game first. Patch 1.005 fixed real cases where resurrection failed despite completed quest and item requirements. Those fixes are included in the current verified build, 1.006.

When does the Resurrection Lab unlock?

You do not get the full zombie system immediately.

After the Sweet Dreams story progression and a sleep, the hidden room behind the old door at the back of the Morgue becomes relevant.

Opening that passage requires:

  • 1 Bronze Detail;
  • 1 Melted Fat.

If Bronze Detail is your blocker, fix the Hardening Bucket and Smithing setup first.

Melted Fat belongs to the early alchemy/distillation chain; see Alchemy Guide if you have not reached it yet.

Repair the Resurrection device first

The central device inside the Resurrection Lab starts broken.

Repairing it requires:

  • 1 Bronze Detail;
  • 2 Wooden Planks;
  • Building Mastery 3.

The repair introduces the resurrection tutorial, reveals the Reanimation progression, and marks Envy day as the relevant day.

The key distinction is that a Resurrection Table only prepares a corpse. The central device is what actually raises it.

How to build Resurrection Table I

After Reanimation is available, use the Morgue/Resurrection-area build desk to construct tables.

One Resurrection Table I requires:

  • 2 Oiled Planks;
  • 4 Polished Stone;
  • 3 Glass.

If one of those materials is not available yet, that is a production-progression issue rather than a resurrection bug.

Building multiple tables is useful because one weekly activation can raise every prepared table at the same time.

What kind of corpse can become a zombie?

The corpse must be valid for resurrection.

The important requirement is that all six organs are present. A corpse with a missing organ or Surgeon's Error cannot be raised.

That makes zombie candidates different from bodies you aggressively dismantle for resources.

If you no longer remember what surgery you performed on a body, using a fresh corpse can be simpler than diagnosing an unusable one.

What do red skulls mean for zombies?

For a worker, red skulls are not simply “bad corpse quality.”

They determine talent capacity — effectively how much zombie-talent development the worker can sustain.

White skulls, which matter heavily for burial quality, are not the key worker metric here. A great Graveyard body and a great automation body are not necessarily the same thing.

Choosing a Zombie Collar

The Collar sets the maximum red-skull range accepted by the resurrection process.

Verified limits are:

  • Bronze Zombie Collar — up to 5 red skulls;
  • Golden Zombie Collar — up to 10;
  • Steel Zombie Collar — up to 99.

If the corpse has more red skulls than the Collar allows, that Collar cannot be used for it.

Your first Bronze Collars are found in the Resurrection Lab chest. Later production is tied to the Jewelry Table and further progression.

Important: the Collar must be in your backpack when using the Resurrection Table.

Where Reanimation Liquid must be stored

This rule is the opposite of the Collar rule and is very easy to miss.

Reanimation Liquid must not simply be in your backpack. It has to be in open storage in the same room as the Resurrection Table.

If you own Liquid but the table behaves as if none exists, move it to room storage first.

One Liquid is consumed per zombie, and it is spent when you press Prepare, not when Envy day arrives.

The initial Resurrection Lab chest gives you a limited supply, so eventually you need alchemy or traders for more.

Step by step: preparing a zombie

Once everything is ready:

  1. bring a valid corpse to Resurrection Table I;

  2. place it on the table;

  3. keep the appropriate Collar in your backpack;

  4. put Reanimation Liquid in open storage in the room;

  5. open the table interface;

  6. select the Collar;

  7. press Prepare.

At that point the Collar and Liquid are consumed and the table remains occupied by the prepared body until resurrection.

Do not use Prepare casually if you are unsure about the body; the materials are already being spent.

Why do you have to wait for Envy day?

The Resurrection device works once per week.

Its power returns at the end of Lust day, and the device is used on Envy day.

On Envy day:

  1. enter the Resurrection Lab;

  2. make sure every body you want is already Prepared;

  3. activate the central device;

  4. all prepared tables come to life;

  5. pick up the new zombies.

After activation, the device is drained until the next weekly cycle.

How to raise several zombies in one week

Build multiple Resurrection Tables.

The device is not limited to one corpse per activation. It raises all prepared tables simultaneously.

An efficient routine is:

  • stock several Collars and Liquids;
  • prepare two or three corpses in advance;
  • wait for Envy day;
  • use one activation for all of them.

That is much better than preparing one corpse after the weekly charge has already been spent.

Why does the table reject my body?

Check:

  • are all six organs present?
  • does the corpse have Surgeon's Error?
  • does the Collar cover its red-skull count?
  • is the Collar in your backpack?
  • is Reanimation Liquid in room storage?

A resource in the wrong location can make the problem look like a corpse-quality issue.

My prepared body reset after leaving the Morgue

That was a real early-release bug.

Patch 1.005 fixed the prepared-body/strap state resetting after leaving and re-entering the Morgue. It also fixed cases where zombies could not be resurrected despite meeting the quest and item requirements.

If an old Reddit post describes that exact symptom, today's first fix is updating the game rather than reproducing an outdated workaround.

What do I do with the new zombie?

A newly raised zombie is not automatically a functioning production worker.

You still need to:

  • assign it to a workstation;
  • give it the correct tool;
  • check its own Mastery;
  • configure the craft queue;
  • supply materials/storage;
  • add a Supplier Zombie when the chain needs logistics.

How to get more Reanimation Liquid

The starter supply is finite.

Later, Liquid is available through alchemy and traders. Its rune formula is 2 red, 1 green, 4 blue, and practical self-production belongs to the more advanced multi-ingredient alchemy stage.

Do not burn through all starter Liquid on random bodies before you know which workers you actually need.

See Alchemy Guide for the full system.

FAQ

What day can I resurrect zombies?

Envy day, using the central Resurrection device.

Can I raise multiple zombies at once?

Yes. Prepare several tables before Envy day and one activation raises all of them.

Where should the Zombie Collar be?

In the Keeper's backpack.

Where should Reanimation Liquid be?

In open storage in the same room as the Resurrection Table.

Can I resurrect a corpse missing an organ?

No. All six organs must be present, and a body with Surgeon's Error is invalid.

How many red skulls does a Bronze Collar allow?

Up to 5. Golden allows 10 and Steel 99.

Everything is correct but resurrection still fails. What now?

Update the game first. 1.005 specifically fixed this class of bug. Then verify Envy day and the device's weekly charge.
